Denzel Washington is one of the most iconic and successful actors in Hollywood. He has been nominated for two Oscars, winning one for Best Actor in 2001’s Training Day. He has appeared in countless films over his illustrious career, including memorable roles in Glory, The Pelican Brief, Philadelphia, and American Gangster.
Washington was born on December 28th 1954 to a Pentecostal minister father and a beautician mother. Growing up he attended multiple schools before graduating from Fordham University with a degree in Drama & Journalism. After graduation he joined the cast of A Soldier’s Play where he received an Obie Award for his performance as best actor off-Broadway. Soon after this success came roles on Broadway such as Checkmates and Strictly Business which earned him Tony nominations for both performances.
In 1982 Denzel made his debut into film starring alongside Ed Harris in Carbon Copy followed by appearances across many genres such as action (Crimson Tide), drama (Malcolm X), comedy (The Preacher’s Wife) and even romance (The Pelican Brief). They have four children together: John David, Katia, Olivia, and Malcolm all whom are now grown up adults following their own paths after being raised by their famous parents.
