Berry was born on August 14th, 1966 in Cleveland Ohio to Judith Ann Hawkins and Jerome Jesse Berry. As a child she took dance classes as well as attended acting classes at Karamu House Theater which helped her land her first TV role at age 21 on ABC’s “Living Dolls” series. After making appearances on various television shows and films such as Spike Lee’s “Jungle Fever”, she starred in the hit movie “Boomerang” alongside Eddie Murphy (1992). Her career began with small roles on television shows such as Knots Landing (1989) Living Dolls (1989), The Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air (1990). In 1991 Halle starred opposite Eddie Murphy in Boomerang which became a box office hit solidifying her status as one of Hollywood’s leading ladies. Since then Halle has appeared in some highly acclaimed films including Monster’s Ball (2001) for which she won Best Actress Oscar making history by becoming first African American woman ever win this award; X-Men Franchise(2000-2019); Die Another Day (2002); Catwoman (2004).
In addition to acting Halle is also involved behind the scenes producing several projects such as Through Her Eyes (2017), Higher Learning (1995), Frankie & Alice (2010). As well as writing executive producing Bruised directed by herself slated for 2021 release date.
Outside of film/television work Halle is known globally for being vocal about social justice issues particularly involving women’s rights, racial equality, gun control laws etc..
