Scarlett Johansson is an American actress who has been captivating audiences since her first big break in the 1998 movie The Horse Whisperer. She has gone on to have a successful career, with roles in some of Hollywood’s biggest hits such as Lost In Translation, The Avengers and Ghost In The Shell.

Johansson was born in New York City on November 22nd 1984. Growing up she showed a keen interest in acting and began taking classes at the Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute when she was just nine years old. After appearing in several off-Broadway productions she made her film debut at age thirteen alongside Robert Redford in The Horse Whisperer. Her performance earned her acclaim from critics and led to further roles including Eight Legged Freaks (2002) and Girl With A Pearl Earring (2003).

In 2003 Scarlett won a BAFTA Award for Best Actress for her role as Charlotte in Lost In Translation, cementing herself as one of Hollywood’s leading ladies. Since then she has starred opposite top actors like Matt Damon, Bill Murray and Samuel L Jackson while also becoming part of Marvel’s Cinematic Universe with appearances as Black Widow/Natasha Romanoff across multiple films within the franchise including Captain America: Civil War (2016), Infinity War (2018) and Endgame (2019).

Johansson isn’t only known for her work on screen; she is also an accomplished singer having released two albums – Anywhere I Lay My Head (2008) and Break Up (2009). She continues to be active both musically & cinematically with recent releases being Marriage Story (2019) which garnered Johansson another Academy Award nomination & Jojo Rabbit where she plays Hitler loving mother Rosie Betzler earning praise from fans & critics alike.

In 2018 she starred alongside Dwayne Johnson and Karen Gillan in Marvel Studios’ blockbuster hit Avengers: Infinity War which grossed over 2 billion dollars worldwide.

In addition to acting on screen, Scarlett also ventures into musical projects; releasing two albums – Anywhere I Lay My Head (2008) composed mainly of Tom Waits covers along with Break Up (2009), a collaboration album recorded with Pete Yorn – as well as lending her voice to numerous soundtracks such as The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out Of Water (2015).

Outside of entertainment circles Scarlett is widely recognized for being an advocate for women’s rights. She was appointed Global Goodwill Ambassador to UN Women back in 2014 where she works towards global gender equality through campaigns such charity events or speaking engagements at universities around the world. Additionally, Johansson actively supports organizations that work towards eliminating poverty or protecting our environment like Oxfam America or Meals On Wheels respectively.
